Gene Robinson on Obama's Inaction, NH Marriage Law, Olson-Boies case
Gene Robinson: "I think that a number of [members of the LGBT community] are beginning to be impatient with [President Obama]. The argument that he's got other things on his plate really doesn't hold water since he has certainly demonstrated an ability to multitask and to tackle very, very important issues at the same time. Also, I just saw a poll -- I think it was yesterday or the day before -- showing enormous support for an end to 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell,' even amongst the military, even amongst conservatives, amongst Republicans, not to mention the general public. I still believe that he is going to move forward on that and on the Defense of Marriage Act and so on, but I do think patience is wearing thin, and I think it's time for him to begin to give this some of his time and energy."

Chastity Bono, the celebrity offspring of the singer and late husband Sonny Bono, is changing gender from female to male, her publicist told the Daily News on Thursday.GLAAD:The 40-year-old, known to family and friends as Chaz, came out as a lesbian nearly two decades ago. Bono intends to make the transition from woman to man, publicist Howard Bragman said.
"Chaz, after many years of consideration, has made the courageous decision to honor his true identity," Bragman said.
"He is proud of his decision and grateful for the support and respect that has already been shown by loved ones.
"Chaz Bono's decision to live his life authentically represents an important step forward, both for him personally and for all who are committed to advancing discussions about fairness and equality for transgender people," said Neil G. Giuliano, president of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD). "Coming out as transgender is an extremely personal decision and one that is never made lightly. We look forward to hearing Chaz's story in his own words in the future."p>"GLAAD encourages media outlets to cover this story accurately, and to avoid speculation about the details of Chaz's story before he is ready to share them," Giuliano added.
The GLAAD Media Reference Guide urges media to use the name and pronoun preferred by the transgender person - in this case, referring to him as Chaz and using male pronouns. GLAAD also strongly urges media to avoid making assumptions about what medical decisions or steps Chaz Bono may or may not undertake as part of his transition.
Fox News anchor Shepard Smith, host of the top-rated evening cable newscast, believes Americans challenging the eligibility of Barack Obama to hold the office of president are "crazies," saying "there is no truth whatsoever" to the suggestion Obama is not a "natural born citizen."WND then takes the time to remind readers that the Faux News anchor was arrested "for allegedly driving his Mazda Millenia into another reporter who wwho was standing in a parking space she attempted to save for a friend," and posted his mug shot and saying "Ironically, Smith himself allegedly engaged in activity some might deem questionable." WTF? Now that's journalism at its finest, WND. By the way, in the middle of this article, WND inserted a link to this bit of fun, as if to underscore the crazy:Smith made the remark during analysis of today's shooting at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, where an elderly gunman opened fire with a rifle, killing a security guard before himself being shot. Police were probing an alleged white supremacist, James von Brunn, as the assailant.
During his interview with Heidi Beirich of the Southern Poverty Law Center, Smith said:
"There are these crazies out there who want to pretend [Obama's] not a citizen of the United States, who want to pretend that his religion is something they see as in some way troublesome to them and all of us. And there is a group perpetuating this thought, and there is a culture to which you can attach yourself very easily through the Internet. ... We know it's absolutely - there is no truth whatsoever - zero - to any of those ideas, yet they live within the computer and they fester in people's minds."
...Smith made numerous references to a Department of Homeland Security report warning of potential violence from "right-wing extremists," and said he's been personally disturbed by an increase in e-mail to him from people "who are way out there on a limb ... out there in a scary place."
