Sexual Minorities Voice Their Rights

by Jhabindra Bhandari
The Rising Nepal

The Blue Diamond Society (BDS), a national non-governmental organization recently organized a two day long national consultation workshop on gender, sexuality and human rights in Kathmandu. More than 300 sexual minorities – mainly lesbians, gay, bisexual and third gender (LGBT) gathered from different parts of the country and exchanged their ideas, experiences and social issues.

Unfortunately, the government has paid very little attention to address their social, political and health needs. As many think, it is now high time that we should change our attitude towards sexual minorities; and create an enabling environment to overcome the socio-cultural, economic and political barriers. Let’s commit ourselves to gradually bridge the disparity due to sexuality and gender to ensure social justice for humanity.
