(PRWEB) November 2, 2009 -- Ali Ghalib, head Imam of the Gay Mosque, is thrilled along with other members of the gay community, in celebrating the president's recent signing of of the expanded Hate Bill which will gets its funding from the $680 billion dollar defense authorization bill.

This Bill is named after a homosexual teenager, Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr, an African-American, who was dragged to death.

"With this improved hate crimes bill, the gay mosque will flourish in our communities making a better life for gay and happy Muslims everywhere in this blessed land, the United States of America. Blesses be America!" Imam Ghalib said.

Dear Mr. President

Dear Mr. President,

I'm a pretty patient guy, Mr. President. I must be, considering that while you were celebrating your 6th birthday I was putting my life on the line for my country, serving as a Military Policeman in Vietnam, even though I had to lie every minute of every waking hour to do so. I kept myself going with the faith that someday other patriotic gay and lesbian Americans would be able to proudly serve their nation without having to live a lie.

I must be a patient man, Mr. President. When you were 8 years old I gave up a promising law enforcement career with the Washington State Patrol rather than continue to put up with the incredible pressure of attempting to pass as a
heterosexual. I kept myself going with the faith that someday GLBT people would be
protected in their jobs from the whims of heterosexual bigots.

I must be a patient man, Mr. President. When you were 10 years old my good friend, John Singer and I were refused a license to marry. The courts of the day upheld that decision. I kept myself going with the faith that someday every person in this country would have that most basic of rights, the right to make his or her own decision about whom to marry.

I must be a patient man, Mr. President. When you were 15 years old a gang of young men armed with baseball bats showed up at my door stating that they were going to show me "What we do with fags in this neighborhood". I came out of that unscathed only because I was able to reach the shotgun I kept handy for just such an occasion. I kept myself going with the faith that someday the same laws which protected racial minorities and religious majorities from hate crimes would also protect those targeted simply because they are GLB or T.

I must be a patient man, Mr. President. For the past 40 years and more I have defended and supported the Democratic Party even though their promises of support for the LGBT community always had to take a backseat to other more pressing issues, issues that affected "all" Americans. I kept myself going with the faith that someday our issues would make it to the top of the heap of things that needed to get done.

I must be a patient man, Mr. President. Even though I worked tirelessly for your election and donated more money to your campaign than I have for all other elections COMBINED in the past, I was willing to cut yo cut you some slack on your avoidance of addressing issues affecting the gay community once you had been elected. You have a lot on your plate. I kept myself going with the faith that you, who declared yourself a "fierce advocate" of full equality for GLBT people would get around to fulfilling your campaign promises once you got caught up.

But then you crapped all over us, and haven't even gotten around to saying "I'm sorry".

So I'll say it. I'm sorry.

I'm sorry that I confused "Yes we can" with "Yes we will".

I'm sorry that I confused campaign promises with political will.

I'm sorry that I forgot that even though all people are created equal, some are created more equal than others.

But most of all I am sorry that for me and other LGBT people the Audacity of Hope has been changed to the abandonment of hope. That hurts most of all, Mr. President. We had allowed ourselves to have a dream, but last week's comparisons of our relationships to pedophilia and incest shattered that dream, perhaps beyond repair.

By the way, the DNC recently sent me a fund raising letter. I returned it without the
requested check but simply with the notation scrawled across it in large letters "I am gay". That will be my standard response to all fund raising requests from the Democrats until such time as I see one or more of the following take place:

The repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell, Don't Pursue"

The repeal of the so called Defense of Marriage act.

The passage of Hate Crime legislation that includes protection for ALL in the LBGT
community.

The passage of employment non-discrimination legislation which protects ALL in the LBGT community.

I understand that you like to play basketball, Mr. President. Well, Sir, the ball is now in your court.

Dear President Obama from Col. Dan Tepfer (USAF) retired

Dear President Obama,


My wife and I and our three children, now adults, served as a military family for 23 years before I retired as a colonel in the Air Force. While my family did not have to experience frequent separations or my death or serious injury like so many service families do now, all military families make sacrifices. We moved twice with kids who were entering their senior year of high school. We appreciate that you and Michelle have made military families a top priority.


Our three adult children are responsible citizens who all work in education, one at an early childhood special needs school in Columbus, OH, one at a high school in Prince Georges County, MD and one at the University of Maryland. We are so very proud of all of them.


One of our children is gay, and that is the motivation for this letter. We have been encouraged by the difficult and courageous decisions you have made in many areas, domestic and international, and we are grateful for the promises you have made to secure civil rights for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) citizens. We worry, however, that you are moving too cautiously. Several bills are working their way through Congress, but so far we haven’t seen the special push from the White House that could accelerate the process.


As a retired military officer, the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t tell is of paramount importance to me, and I spoke on the Capitol lawn with the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network in March. I understand there is a legislative procedure to follow, but a stop-loss order from you now could prevent the dismissal of Lt. Dan Choi, Lt. Col. Victor Fehrenbach, Major Margaret Witt, and all the other valuable gay military members who are losing their beloved careers while the ponderous legislative process lumbers along.


Hate crimes. Housing and employment discrimination. Immigration policy. Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. Defense of Marriage Act. Each of these may seem like a small matter, but taken together, they represent a significant and unconscionable disservice by our federal government to its GLBT citizens. Change is imperative.


I understand there are always political costs to evaluate, but I no longer think moving quickly on these issues will have the negative consequences you might fear. The country’s attitude toward equality for GLBT citizens is moving with a speed we could not have imagined just a few years ago, even on the issue of marriage which has always been the most controversial.


Please act with the courage of your convictions. Use the power of your office to advance equality and fairness for all without further delay.

LGBT Media Moves to the Forefront in Pennsylvania Primary

As presidential hopefuls vie for the vote in the upcoming Pennsylvania primary, the Philadelphia Gay News invited the candidates to an interview about their positions on LGBT issues. Sen. Hillary Clinton accepted the invitation and spoke at length with the newspaper about her stances on legislation that would affect LGBT lives.


Clinton’s interview with the Philadelphia Gay News and the Associated Press’s report about it again reinforce the growing visibility and importance of LGBT media in the 2008 election and the willingness of candidates to discuss the issues that matter to LGBT Americans. However, both Sen. John McCain and Sen. Barack Obama declined to talk with the Gay News. The paper responded to Obama’s refusal by printing a blank space in its pages where his interview would have appeared.

Obama must think gay people aren't very bright.

Since his McCluckin fiasco Obama has been trying to convince us he's all for equality.

In a recent statement he said "McClurkin is a talented performer and a beloved figure among many African Americans and Christians around the country. At the same time, he espouses beliefs about homosexuality that I completely reject.".

It's seems to me if Obama truely rejected McCluckins' beliefs he wouldn't have hired McCluckin to represent him. In addition, Obama would not have given McCluckin an open mic to preach anti-gay hate at the end of the event.

Obama also recently stated "There are good, decent, moral people in this country who do not yet embrace their gay brothers and sisters as full members of our shared community."

Let me tell you Obama, we aren't going to wait for those people to embrace us. Quite frankly we could care less if they embrace us. You are talking "pie in the sky" ideals. All people will never accept gays! The expectation of such is insulting, rediculous and unreasonable. It sounds VERY much like an excuse. Do you think all people have embraced blacks?

We are citizens of the USA and we are guaranteed equal rights under the constitution. End of story.
