SAN FRANCISCO (AP)A federal judge in San Francisco says the sponsors of California's same-sex marriage ban must hand over some internal campaign records to lawyers seeking to overturn the voter-enacted initiative.

Nevada's secretary of state issued domestic partnership certificate No. 1 at the state Capitol on Thursday as a state law providing many of the same legal rights as marriage to gay and straight partners went into effect.
The first couple to be issued the certificate — Lee Cagley and Larry Davis — shared tears and laughter and were congratulated by Secretary of State Ross Miller.

Illinois State Senator Heather Steans (D-7th District) introduce a bill to legalize same-sex marriage in the state yesterday, according to a press release from Equality Illinois.
The bill would ensure state recognition of same-sex marriages while ensuring that religious institutions will not be required to perform marriages inconsistent with religious practices.
The bill is a companion to a civil unions bill introduced in the state House by Rep. Greg Harris (D-13th District) in January.
