Gay News Magazine Headlines (T24T-2)

Feature Story: As the Capital Pride Alliance took the reins of Capital Pride this year, they set a theme that celebrated GLBT history: "Generations of Pride: Celebrate and Remember -- Stonewall at 40."
And while it wasn't a first Capital Pride outing for the D.C.-based National Trust for Historic Preservation, a membership-driven nonprofit organization founded in 1949 to preserve America's historic places and revitalize communities, the historical theme pushed the Trust beyond its regular booth to sign on as a "community partner," helping to sponsor this 34th Capital Pride celebration.
"That was a great theme to draw us in: documenting and preserving the history of our culture," says David Field, assistant director for the National Trust's Office of Human Resources, and a gay man who's taken an interest in his organization's outreach to the GLBT community. Accordingly, he points out that the 40-year anniversary of the GLBT riots at the Stonewall Inn in New York City's Greenwich Village coincided with the 10-year anniversary of the Stonewall Inn being added to the National Register of Historic Sites. ...more
Feature Story: Even if you've never met Paul K. Williams, if you live in the D.C. area it's a pretty safe bet you've noticed one of his many books. With their often sepia-toned photo covers, his little gems of bound, local history are plentiful.
"I've done 11 books based on neighborhoods of Washington, and two from upstate New York," says the 43-year-old gay historic preservationist, who shares a home with his partner, freelance writer Gregory Alexander, in Baltimore's Charles Village. "That was all through Arcadia Publishing. My partner and I just did one on (Baltimore's) Charles Village through The History Press.
"Greater U Street has sold the most. It was one of my earlier ones. That's probably my favorite one. It was a lot of fun to research. There were a lot of firsts we documented." ...more
Feature Story: The Rainbow History Project, an all-volunteer organization whose mission is to "collect, preserve and promote an active knowledge of the history, arts and culture relevant to sexually diverse communities in metropolitan Washington," is offering a full slate of events to mark October as GLBT History Month. SAN FRANCISCO (AP)
A federal judge in San Francisco says the sponsors of California's same-sex marriage ban must hand over some internal campaign records to lawyers seeking to overturn the voter-enacted initiative.

Nevada's secretary of state issued domestic partnership certificate No. 1 at the state Capitol on Thursday as a state law providing many of the same legal rights as marriage to gay and straight partners went into effect.

"This gives us the legal rights to act for each other's benefit," said Davis, a funeral home director. "It's a wonderful privilege and we're grateful."
