This is hot off the press folks: Starline accidentally double booked us with a five band event at their venue this Saturday night. We were asked on short notice to throw a special INTEGRATION, which we appropriately dubbed One Night Stand, this Saturday because Starline thought they had an opening in their schedule. We found [...]

The hilarious thing about the headline of this article, "Notre Dame criticized for funding student travel to D.C. homosexual march," is that it suggests an outpouring of criticism is going on at the University's campus over funding five students to go to the National Equality March. Even better, I had to scan this piece twice to locate the criticism. Overall, the matter is portrayed as positive. I've bolded the references to the critics.

The University of Notre Dame's Student Activities Office is facing criticism for allowing a group of five students to use student activities funds to travel to a national homosexual political demonstration that advocated for same-sex "marriage" and related issues.

..."The fact that we were university-approved was surprising but it was a wonderful surprise," [PSA President, sophomore Jackie ] Emmanuel remarked. "The university hasn't always been entirely receptive in the past." She said she has felt "a slight tone of homophobia" from some areas on campus, but she expressed her belief that the student body is "generally supportive."

...Patrick J. Reilly, President of The Cardinal Newman Society, was among the critics of the Student Activities Office's decision to fund the students' travel.

"Faithful Catholics will ask whether Notre Dame has learned its lesson from the scandalous commencement ceremony last spring," he commented in a press release. "What university seeking to reassure families of its Catholic identity would pay for students to attack the family and oppose Catholic teachings on marriage?"

That's it -- apparently the CNA was unable to locate a massive amount of critics to counter the postive quotes in the rest of the piece. I smell a scandal much about nothing.

Well, why not?  Based on this CNN report, Keith 'Loving v. Virginia? What's that?' Bardwell is cut from the same cloth as George W. Bush, Sarah Palin and the rest of America's Axis of Certitude

A justice of the peace in Louisiana who has drawn widespread criticism for refusing to issue a marriage license to an interracial couple says he has no regrets about his decision.

"It's kind of hard to apologize for something that you really and truly feel down in your heart you haven't done wrong," Keith Bardwell told CNN affiliate WAFB on Saturday.

I have three words for Bardwell: Miscegenation Law Scoreboard.

Oh...

And something else.

Haven't I seen Bardwell somewhere before???

Thanks Karen Ocamb for sending us this piece, originally posted at LGBT POV!
approve_bannerWhile so much attention has been paid to President Obama's foot-dragging in Washington, the national march that brought ten of thousands (organizers say up to 150,000) to the steps of the Capitol in DC,  and the campaign in Maine to retain marriage (especially by folks in California who are reminded how this antigay battle is the East Coast version of our battle over Prop 8 last year) - there is another important campaign happening is the OTHER Washington - the fight to retain their Domestic Partnership law. One way the ApproveRef71 campaign hopes to raise money and spread the word is by having regular LGBT people and allies produce their own videos and shoot them around to friends, family, co-workers sokers so more people become aware of the importance of this fight. Joe Mirabella and Joe Brokken are just regular gay guys who love each other. They've been together for six years and are domestic partners in the state of Washington. It's not marriage - but hey, having some protections and recognition for your relationship is WAY better than having to save or dredge up the money for a lawyer to work out a formal legal agreement that will satisfy the conservative right wing. As if that would ever happen, anyway. But a clinical private legal contract between two emotionless signatures is what "the two Joes" would have to resort to - if they could afford it - if the right wing wins in Washington and takes away their domestic partnerships. Says Joe Mirabella:
This election is too close to take anyone for granted. We must not only come out to our friends and family, we must share with them how important equal protection under the law is for us. I invite you to use social media, such as Facebook, to speak directly to your network. Remind them to vote approved on referendum 71 to keep domestic partnerships.
In this short video, the two Joes explain how to do that:
After months of careful research and analysis from our Trans Policy Working Group, and after hearing from transgender and allied Oregonians from across the state, the team of volunteers leading this effort has selected a campaign for transgender justice: increasing access to health care for transgender Oregonians. Why health care? Because transgender, genderqueer and gender nonconforming [...]
