Word to the wise: daring the cop to Taser you is now enough for them to oblige.
Good to know...
A traffic stop for speeding in Travis County, Texas, led to the Tasering of a 72-year-old great-grandmother by a deputy. Feisty Kathryn Winkfein apparently so frightened the law-enforcement officer when she "used some profanity" and "got violent" that he felt it necessary to subdue her with a potentially dangerous jolt of electricity.Winkfein was reportedly doing 60 in a construction zone where the posted speed limit was 45 when she was pulled over. She was ticketed but declined to sign the ticket, leading the police officer to place her under arrest lest civilization collapse for want of the surrender of a penny's worth of ink.
At this point, the stories diverge. According to Precinct 3 Constable Richard McCain, Winkfein cursed and refused to cooperate. She says nothing of the sort occurred. "I wasn't argumentative, I was not combative. This is a lie," the woman told a news reporter for Fox 7.
Either way, it's difficult to see how the issuance of a speeding ticket to an elderly woman devolved to the point where a grown, trained law-enforcement officer could be considered justified in subjecting the speeder to an electric jolt intended to disrupt her nervous system -- no matter what command of profanity she displayed.
Given that the speeding ticket had already been issued, it's also difficult to understand what purpose was served by prolonging the encounter and demanding a signature.
Especially when the woman (half the officer's size) is caught on tape repeatedly saying that she WOULD sign the ticket!
Here's the first video including an interview with the dangerous 72 year old great-grandmother.
Eeks!
The dashcam video is imo very disturbing and below the fold.
Here is the released dashcam video:
Damn right he's facing a civil suit...
Guess I literally "missed a bullet", when I took a similar highway speeding ticket, crumbled it up into a ball and threw it onto the floor of my car years ago!
Why tempting 'thots' of quitting? Maybe it has something to do with the dismal donation rates. The Public Disclosure Commission says that Protect Marriage Washington has only raised $2,072. And carpetbagger Gary Randall's Faith and Freedom PAC ("exclusively committed" to Ref 71, except it's not) has only received a piddly $1,994.51 in contributions. Ouch. Printing and distributing 60,000 petitions with 100+ page long bill attachments will drain those funds pretty quickly. No wonder Gary was diverting donation s to his non-PAC accounts - must protect the paycheck! Wouldn't want to spend that dough on a referendum nobody wants. And I mean nobody.# Another cool thot from a twitterer - "The temptation to quit will be greatest just before you are about to succeed." ~Old Chinese Proverb

Incidentally, although Cindy is a dedicated tweeter, she still hasn't bothered to sign up to follow PMW's Twitters. I wonder if Cindy was really ever wholeheartedly on board with this referendum thing.

Capitol Hill police barred them from entering the room to continue what they called a consecration service. But in a bit of one-upsmanship, the three announced that they had let themselves in a day earlier, touching holy oil to the seats where Judge Alito, the senators, witnesses, Senate staffers and the press will sit, and praying for each of the 13 committee members by name. Here we go with the batsh*ttery again...From David Brody of CBN News:"We did adequately apply oil to all the seats," said the Rev. Rob Schenck, who identified himself as an evangelical Christian and as president of the National Clergy Council in Washington.
The Christian group "Faith and Action in the Nation's Capitol" has made its way to Capitol Hill and Supreme Court Nominee Sonia Sotomayor might be interested in what they did. They blessed the doors of Senate Hart Building Room 216 with prayer and oil because they believe this will be the room most likely used for her confirmation hearing which begins July 13th.Read Schenck's letter about his little religious excursion to the Capitol below the fold.
Hat tip, Sam M.Dear,
You probably heard the news that US Senate Judiciary Committee ch airman Patrick Leahy has set the start date for confirmation hearings surrounding Judge Sonia Sotomayor as President Obama's nominee to the United States Supreme Court. They will begin Monday, July 13, and probably last through that week. I waited for that announcement before making one of my own:
A firm foundation of prayer has been laid for this confirmation process. Wednesday morning, June 3, about 8:00, I went to the US Senate Hart Building across the street from our ministry center where the last two Supreme Court nomination hearings took place. Once there, I proceeded to Committee Room 216, the very same chamber where we have held numerous prayer and worship services over the years. This will most likely be the venue for the Senate hearing.
I went to the hearing room doors, and, following biblical and long-held Christian traditions, anointed them with oil as a symbol of consecration, or a setting apart for God's purpose. In respect for Judge Sotomayor's strong Catholic back background, I used oil specially formulated for this purpose. It was also blessed by a Catholic priest at the St. Francis Monastery here in Washington, DC.
As I prayed, I touched the doors in three spots, making the sign of the cross. I prayed for God to superintend over the entire confirmation process and mark them with truth because Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life," and He prayed to His Father, saying, "Thy Word is Truth." Of course, in the end, we always pray that God's will be done.
There is so much we can do as part of this enormously consequential exercise, including letting our senators know how we feel about this nomination. Nothing, though, is as important as prayer. I invite you to join me in praying as often as you can during the entire hearing process beginning Monday morning, July 13.
I will keep you informed.
