Iceland?s lesbian minister of social affairs was expected to be chosen as the country?s caretaker prime minister later this week, making her the word?s first known openly gay head of state.

Johanna Siguroardottir, 66, a member of the Icelandic Parliament since 1978, was designated Tuesday by leaders of Iceland?s Social Democratic Alliance Party as the party?s choice for prime minister following the collapse of the country?s governing coalition Monday.

Siguroardottir, if ratified to become prime minister as expected by an interim coalition formed by the Social Democratic Alliance and other political parties, must grapple with rising unemployment and near chaos in the country?s ban ...

Former evangelical pastor Ted Haggard's wife says she knew about his struggles with same-sex attraction for years and felt he was "winning the battle" before a scandal involving a male prostitute triggered his downfall in late 2006.

Gayle Haggard makes the remarks in an appearance with her husband on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" to air Wednesday. She said she was shocked when Haggard first told her the truth about the allegations against him.

"The first words out of my mouth were, 'Who are you?'" she said, according to a publicity release issued Tuesday by Harpo Productions.

Attorney General Dustin McDaniel no longer wants supporters of a new law aimed at banning gays from adopting or fostering children to join a case challenging the ban.

Earlier this month, McDaniel told The Associated Press that he would welcome supporters of the ban who want to intervene in the lawsuit. But last week, his office filed objections to a request by the conservative Arkansas Family Council to intervene.

The council notes in its Jan. 16 request that McDaniel previously opposed the measure to ban unmarried couples living together from adopting or fostering children. The ban went into effect Jan. 1 after voters approved it in November. The council said McDaniel may not ma ...

Former Atlanta Brave John Rocker used anti-gay slurs and anti-Semitic statements against local radio host Steak Shapiro during an altercation at the W Buckhead hotel’s grand opening last week.

News of Rocker being tossed from the glitzy Jan. 22 party was first reported in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The newspaper stated Rocker used ethnic slurs against Shapiro, who hosts a sports talk show on AM station 790 The Zone, and in later stories reported that Rocker kept calling Shapiro a “Jew.”
