Combined Gay News Headlines (T5T-1)

In our review of the best of the gay (and gay-interest) films at the Sundance Film Festival, we might have left out one film worth checking out. It's Rudo y Cursi, a Spanish-language flick that pits Y Tu Mama Tambien hotties Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal together again, playing two nobodies who become Mexican [...]
Listen, we're gonna be honest: We're absolutely in love with Scott Herman, the straight jock with the amazing abs on The Real World: Brooklyn. Yes, we love J.D. (gay) and Katelynn (transgender) and Sarah (gay-turned-straight) and Chet ("straight" Mormon). But Scott, with his sweetheart appeal and aww-chucks attitude, is absolutely adorable. So we feel for [...]
You'd think that in their bid to remain viable members of the next generation of California marriage quality advocates, the members of the Executive Committee for the failed No on 8 campaign would demonstrate some transparency, but it took a public records request filing with California Secretary of State Debra Bowen by SF-activist Michael Petrelis [...]

I’ll admit I was kind of switching between the San Francisco AmericaAmerican Idol auditions and the coverage of the inauguration but I still managed to catch quite a bit. Warning…inanity ensues. 1. The DJ for the evening, Nick Cannon…really?! They should have just gone with a host  instead of having him stand there in front of vinyl [...]

In a recent OneNewsNow piece, "reporter" Chad Groening wrote about Press Secretary Robert Gibbs's "startling pronouncement" regarding whether the Obama Administration plans on seeing Don't Ask, Don't Tell  (DADT) repealed. Gibbs responded with a one-word answer: "Yes." (PHB diary here.) The OneNewsNow piece, entitled Obama et al. essentially mum on military ban, extensively quoted Elaine Donnelly:

Elaine Donnelly...While Donnelly acknowledges that Obama could get rid of "don't ask, don't tell" with the simple stroke of a pen, she believes that he really wants to get rid of the actual law which strictly prohibits homosexuals from military service. An obstacle, however, stands in the way.

"That can only be done by Congress," Donnelly explains. "And the members of Congress, when they approved that law [in 1993], did so with overwhelming bi-partisan, veto-proof majorities -- and the law has been upheld by the courts several times.

"You don't just take a perfectly sound and valuable law like that and just repeal it," she adds.

Donnelly maintains Gibbs and the Obama administration do not understand the consequences of such an action.

Oh yes. We remember Donnelly's recent warnings about the consequences of gay, lesbian, and bisexual people were allowed to serve openly in the military services:

Donnelly treated the panel to an extraordinary exhibition of rage. She warned of "transgenders in the military." She warned that lesbians would take pictures of people in the shower. She spoke ominously of gays spreading "HIV positivity" through the ranks.

"We're talking about real consequences for real people," Donnelly proclaimed. Her written statement added warnings about "inappropriate passive/aggressive actions common in the homosexual community," the prospects of "forcible sodomy" and "exotic forms of sexual expression," and the case of "a group of black lesbians who decided to gang-assault" a fellow soldier.

I believe President Obama is aware that the consequences of repealing DADT aren't going to be what Donnelly believes the consequences will be.

So, Donnelly's head didn't explode as I expected it would over the Gibbs video, but she definitely responded to the video relatively quickly.
