San Francisco, CA – July 10, 2008 – The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual Transgender (GLBT) Historical Society announced plans today to open a new exhibit in the Castro district later this year.
Washington Mutual has agreed to lease space in the heart of the Castro District, at the corner of 18th & Castro, to the GLBT Historical Society through October of 2009. Once the details of the lease are final, the GLBT Historical Society plans to begin installing the exhibit in August, and aims to open the exhibit to the public in November. The exhibit will feature historic photographs, objects and documents that chronicle the evolution of the GLBT community in San Francisco, and the emergence of the Castro as the nation’s “Gay Mecca.”
