TRURO — Truro Town Council is going to learn more about heterosexism, homophobia and gender identity nearly a year after it decided not to fly the rainbow flag.

Truro and Rainbow Proud issued a joint statement on Tuesday stating that they have met and constructively discussed the issues associated with council’s decision.

“The Town of Truro and Rainbow Proud commit to work together to conduct an educational and awareness-raising program to be provided to the mayor and council of the Town of Truro dealing with issues of heterosexism, homophobia and gender identity,” the statement said.

Last July, town politicians voted 6-1 against raising the gay pride flag outside town hall for a week in August in conjunction with activities in Pictou County.
