While officials in four of California’s 58 counties were doing everything they could to resist the spirit and intent of the state Supreme Court’s ruling in favor of marriage equality, officials, activists and entrepreneurs in the state’s bigger metropolitan areas were getting ready to embrace next week’s historic moment with open arms, symbolic ceremonies and eager cash registers.
With a report coming out this week from UCLA indicating that the state Supreme Court’s ruling in favor of marriage equality could boost the state economy by $683 million as nearly 120,00- couples marry here over the next three years, options for how to spend money are quickly springing up.
For example, check out Gay Wed L.A., which appeared almost overnight with a web site and an ad on Craigs List, offering a team of "youthful, caring, non-denominational ordained ministers who are so excited to be a part of your wedding," arranging and performing same-sex marriages anywhere in Los Angeles County.
