LONG BEACH - Thanks to the warm weather and the silver anniversary of a local gay pride event, several merchants say they saw their business volume spike this past weekend.
Some merchants, particularly those with businesses along Broadway and Fourth Street, saw a 10- to 30-percent increase in sales on Friday, Saturday and especially Sunday, the day of the Long Beach Lesbian and Gay Pride Parade.

Mark Sutherland, owner of home and garden store Bungalow Marcasso on Broadway, said he had to close shop Monday to recover from a very busy Sunday.

"It was nonstop, just swamped, and we didn't even open the store until after the parade because we were in the parade," said Sutherland, who estimated a 30- to 40-percent increase in business.
