FARMINGTON - A man accused of attacking another in a hotel room for being gay was convicted by a jury of kidnapping and aggravated battery Tuesday, but the jury said the attack was not rooted in hate.
Scott Thompson, 22, had faced a hate crime sentencing enhancement, which would have added one year of prison time to each convicted charge, for allegedly making anti-gay statements to victim Matthew Shetima during a September 2007 attack.
