Changes expected for Providence Gay Men’s Chorus

Now finishing its 12th season, The Providence Gay Men’s Chorus finds itself in a state of transition. The PGMC has launched a search for a new music director and has embarked on a strategic plan designed to expand the chorus and redefine its mission.

Jonathan Beebe, a member of the chorus for five years, said the PGMC had started out as a gay men’s chorus but had transformed its image in recent years. As the chorus members have grown more confident in their abilities, the need to return to the group’s original inspiration has become stronger as well.

"For the first few years (the chorus) was much more centered in the gay community," Beebe explains. "As the group expanded, the focus changed more to the quality of the musicianship."
