A Historic Night in Annapolis

HRC joined forces with Equality Maryland and local GLBT residents to meet with state legislators during Equality Maryland's annual Lobby Day. Hundreds of GLBT constituents braved the cold and wind to show their support for GLBT civil rights and ask their legislators to support the Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Protection Act (a marriage equality bill) and the Transgender Anti-Discrimination bill (which would add gender identity to existing state law prohibiting discrimination in employment, housing, public accommodations and credit).

One the eve of the Chesapeake primary, hundreds of GLBT members and allies gathered on the Lawyer’s Mall outside the state capitol in Annapolis, Maryland, to rally and lobby for civil rights. Equality Maryland sponsored Lobby Day, where constituents asked their legislators to support the Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Protection Act and the Transgender Anti-Discrimination bill.

For the first time in the state’s history, legislators will have the prospect to extend full marriage protection to same-sex couples. They will also have the chance to ensure protection from workplace discrimination. Last year, the transgender bill was defeated by one vote in the Senate committee.
