Queenstown will live up to its gay-friendly name on September 1 when gay men and lesbians from around the world descend for nine days of skiing and frivolity.
Activities range from downhill ski races to karaoke with Miss Ribena and disco bowling.
Creator Mike Sanford said Queenstown was a natural fit for the event, which runs until September 9.
"With a name like Queenstown, how could you not have a gay ski week?" said Mr Sanford.
New Zealanders and Australians make up the bulk of numbers, with visitors also from the US, China and Brazil.
While it's billed as a ski week, many participants barely touch the snow, preferring the apres-ski action.
